MARYLAND
BRAND MANAGEMENT, the parent company of BIG JOHNSONCO was
founded in 1988 by two n'er-do-wells, Shemp Johnson and Curly Joe
Pfeifer. Shemp used to be a corporate attorney for a prestigious
Baltimore law office, but left when it became
apparent that his specialty, "GOLF LAW", was not going to
be part of the firm's longterm aims. Curly Joe was a full-time
drunk and part time suntan lotion salesman in Hilton Head,
SC before deciding
on a less stressful and time-consuming career. Because of their
common love of booze and golf, the brothers decided to team
up and create a
company where they could get someone else to do all the work.
On January 1, 1988, after 24 hours of binge drinking and "night-putting",
the guys sank their entire life savings along with a loan from their
Vinnie the Chin Schmoberg into their new company and "BIG JOHNSON" was
born. They purchased a manual printing press and the necessary accessories
for an
art room and office and moved into a renovated elementary school
gym. The boys bathroom served as the executive office while the girls
bathroom became
the art department. They had one employee and did a little over $500,000
in sales.
Then, as part of a bet (that they lost) the brothers hired cartoonist Al Via. Al had decided that retiremtent was wasted on the old and had gone off to live on various beaches throughout the Caribbean before being deported for "giving Haiti a bad name". Educated as a Historian and Russian linguist (in other words, no real job skills), Al joined on and the 3 began the Big Johnson line of shirts.
Now, Big JohnsonCo is entering it's fourth decade (possibly a record
for a single T-Shirt Line based on a character with no movie, TV,
comic or Videogame
tie-in) and Shemp and Curly Joe are still doing what they love: taking
long golf weekends, drinking boilermakers in dimly lit strip clubs
and calling in from
time to time to make sure that things are going OK. 
Al
is allowed to come out from time to time for sunlight and newspapers.
